Boiler Replacement

Replacement of aging residential and commercial boilers, including the older hydronic systems still running in Wilmington's historic properties.

What this is

Boiler Replacement across Wilmington and the coast

Boiler replacement is a specific skill, and it is one of the services we have kept on the list since the days when far more of Wilmington was heated with hot water. Downtown, in the historic district and in a number of older commercial buildings, hydronic systems are still doing the work, and when one reaches the end of its life it needs a contractor who has actually done the swap before.

The signs are familiar: an old cast-iron unit that has started leaking at the sections, a system that will not hold pressure, rooms that never come up to temperature no matter how long the circulator runs, or a boiler so old that parts are no longer made. At that point a replacement costs less over five years than another round of repairs.

We handle the whole job, from sizing the new unit to the near-boiler piping, the circulator, the expansion tank and the controls, and we do it on residential and commercial properties alike. Where the existing radiators or baseboard are sound, they stay, which keeps the cost of the project down.

Estimates on boiler replacement are free, the same as on any other equipment we sell.

Questions

Boiler Replacement questions we get asked

Still not sure this is what your system needs? Call and describe what it is doing.

Can I keep my existing radiators?

Usually yes. If the emitters and the distribution piping are sound they stay, and only the boiler and near-boiler piping are replaced.

Do you replace commercial boilers?

Yes. We work on residential and commercial equipment.

How old is too old for a boiler?

It depends on the unit, but once sections start weeping or parts are no longer available, replacement is the honest answer.
